This 1947 play written by  Tennessee Williams explores the depths of the character of Blanche du Bois, a woman whose life has been undermined by her romantic illusions, which lead her to reject so far as possible the realities of life with which she is faced and which she consistently ignores. The pressure brought to bear upon her by her sister, with whom she goes to live in New Orleans, intensified by the earthy and extremely "normal" young husband of the latter, leads to a relation of her tragic self-delusion and, in the end, to madness.

Meadville Community Theatre Presents Two Stage Readings: Bug and The Pillowman

October 26 and 27, 2017 ~ Meadville Community Theatre, 400 N. Main St., Meadville PA

Meadville Community Theatre will present two staged readings in October: Bug by Tracy Letts on October 26th at 7pm and The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh on October 27th at 7pm. Staged readings are a form of theatre with no sets or full costumes. Actors instead read straight from scripts and display minimal movement on stage. Bug tells the story of Agnes, a divorced waitress with a penchant for cocaine and isolation. The show deals with the issues of love, paranoia, conspiracy theories, and the Agnes slow descent into insanity under the influence of Peter, the Gulf War vet she allows to share her hotel room. Bug is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. The Pillowman tells the tale of Katurian, a fiction writer living in a police state, who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of bizarre crimes occurring in his town. Both shows present an extreme situation that keeps you on the edge of your seat and constantly scratching your head. The Pillowman is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. For more information call 814-333-1773 or visit us at facebook.com/MCT1967.
